CREST evolved to create industry opportunities for young men and women of diverse backgrounds.
CREST evolved from a prior internship program, the CVP Career Academy. The CVP Career Academy was founded in 2014 when Dick Galvin, President and Founder of CV Properties, engaged Milton Benjamin, Founder and CEO of KAGE Growth Strategies (KAGE), a diversity solutions consulting firm, to create industry opportunities for young men and women of diverse backgrounds. A wide range of commercial real estate firms that included architects, general contractors and developers, were invited to participate and so, the precursor to CREST was born.
From 2014 to 2017, CVP Career Academy sponsored a summer internship program, for more than 20 firms and 58 students. In 2016, NAIOP MA, the real estate trade association, expressed an interest in offering the program to its’ members. As a result they asked four of their members to participate in the Summer 2016 CVP Career Academy as part of a pilot initiative. Their four member firms (Berkeley Investments, Cummings Properties, The Davis Companies and Samuels & Associates) were in the pilot and they reported their positive experiences to the wider trade association.
At the conclusion of 2017, CREST was created with the support of two industry associations, NAIOP and ULI. In 2018, CoreNet, a third industry association became a sponsor as well. The Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB) also joined forces to support CREST.
